L O C A L S P O R T S FOOTBALL Idaho high schools have completed the 2007 State Football Playoffs, with the State Champions crowned over the weekend. In the 5A, Meridian kept their record perfect with a 44-14 win over Capital to win the 5A State Championship in Bronco Stadium. Blackfoot won the 4A State Championship, rolling over Nampa, 46-14 Friday night in Holt Arena in Pocatello. At the 3A level, a week after handing Kimberly their first loss of the season, the Shelley Russets did the same thing to the Fruitland Grizzlies, scoring in the last few seconds to down defending champion Fruitland, 19-13, for the 3A title in Holt Arena in Pocatello. West Jefferson is the 2A State Champion. The Panthers went north to the Kibbie dome in Moscow and beat previously unbeaten Orofino, 20-6, for the 2A State title. In the 1A Division I, the Oakley Hornets kept their record unblemished, beating the Troy Trojans, 46-6 for the 1a Division I title in Holt Arena in Pocatello. In the 1A Division II, title game, Salmon River scored in the closing seconds to best defending champion Carey, 26-22 for the 1A Division II title Thursday evening at Bronco Stadium in Boise.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
The Mountain Home Lady Tigers found the win column Friday night at Wood River, beating the Lady Wolverines, 49-34. Emily Moranda and Chantell Crane led the way with 13 points each, Moranda also had a 13 rebounds. Hannah Zamora added 10 points. The Lady Tigers open conference play on Tuesday at Bishop Kelly. They are home on November 26 against Wood River. They return to conference action on November 28 at Nampa, and host Jerome in an afternoon game on December 1 at 2:00 PM.
Glenns Ferry dropped a couple close games on the road, losing at Buhl, 35-32, and at Cole Valley Christian, 35-28. Ashlea Gramkow led the Lady Pilots in both games, scoring eight points and hauling down 13 rebounds at Buhl, and eight points and 12 rebounds at Cole Valley Christian. The Rimrock girls suffered their first loss of the season Saturday, losing to Dietrich, 56-50, at home Saturday. Anna Cantrell led the Lady Raiders with 14 points, and 10 rebounds. Shelby Chandler added 12 points, and Ellie Cantrell and Jackie Thurman both scored 10 points. The Lady Raiders won earlier in the week at home over Castleford, 50-31. Jackie Thurman recorded a double-double, scoring 15 points and bringing down 12 rebounds. Ellie Cantrell had 11 points, Shelby Chandler, 10.
